Koneru’s bail plea dismissed
Justice Samudrala Govindarajulu of the AP High Court on Monday dismissed the bail plea of Koneru Rajendra Prasad, an accused in the Emaar scam. While dismissing the plea, the judge pointed out that the granting of bail would not be correct as the special court had permitted the Enforcement Directorate to interrogate him for his alleged involvement in money laundering. The judge said that after prima facie evidence was collected by the investigating agency it couldn’t be said that there was no case against the accused.
No stay on transfer policy
Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy was on Monday not inclined to stay the transfer policy of the AP Social Welfare Residential Education Society. The judge was dealing with petitions by Jyothis-hwar and Sudhakar challenging the withdrawal of a clause from the transfer policy. The petitioners told the court that the government and the society withdrew “dependent parents” from the preferential categories for service transfer during counseling. The judge pointed out that the policy did not violate any fundamental right.
No case filed: Notices to state
A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice P.C. Ghose Bose and Justice V. Eswaraiah of the High Court on Monday issued notices to the state government and others on a plea challenging the inaction of the chief secretary. The plea said that the CS failed to grant permission to prosecute persons involved in illegal allotment of land to the Greyhounds' Mutually Aided Co-operative Housing Society.
One P. Bhavani, a resident of the city, filed the plea stating that government land allotted to the society was illegally allo-tted to members and over Rs 40 lakh was spent without proper accounting. She alleged that genuine members of the society were not allotted plots. The allegations were found to be true following an inquiry by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies. She added that permission to prosecute those involved was not being granted by the chief secretary for the past three months.
