Knives out for Kiran, DL, KK bay for blood

After the recent bypoll debacle, senior leaders of the Congress are gunning for the blood of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana.

The first salvo was fired on Thursday by medical and health minister Dr D.L. Ravindra Reddy who submitted his resignation to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, accepting moral responsibility for the party’s poor show.

Speaking to the media at length on Thursday, Dr Ravindra Reddy reiterated his earlier demand that the entire state Cabinet should quit, owning moral responsibility for the loss.

“When all of us enjoy the status of ministers in the Cabinet, is it not our responsibility to rise to the occasion in order to save the party?” he questioned.

Outgoing Rajya Sabha member Dr K. Kesava Rao also blamed the Chief Minister and the PCC chief.

“The Chief Minister wants six more months to set things right, but I believe if the present situation continues, the coming bypolls to 18 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha segment will also be won by Jagan. Then there will be nothing left for the party to rectify,” Dr Kesava Rao said. He also blamed Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy for encouraging those who were against a separate Telangana state.

Ex-minister to quit House after Budget

Former minister P. Ramachandra Reddy conveyed that he is going to quit his membership immediately after the Budget Session. He has apparently already informed central party leaders Mr Ahmed Patel and Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad regarding the decision.

Dr P. Shankar Rao, who had been sacked from the Cabinet for disobedience, also did not let this opportunity go by. He said on Thursday that the entire Cabinet should be held responsible for the party’s poor showing, adding that the CM and PCC should voluntarily step down.

“During YSR’s regime, he had asked two ministers, Maganti Babu and M. Mareppa, to quit when the party had lost in the ZPTC polls held at their constituency headquarters. This type of guts is required now to rejuvenate the party. The Congress needs clarity on the issues of Telangana and Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy,” Dr Shankar Rao said.

Meanwhile, without naming the CM or the PCC chief, Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha said, “The accountability lies on the leaders; it is their responsibility to control the things otherwise there is no need for them to continue in their posts.”

Senior minister from Telangana region K. Jana Reddy told newsmen that it was high time that the Congress leadership took a decision on Telangana before the party suffered in the local body polls too.

He said that many Telangana Congress MPs and Legislators were in touch with him and were discussing the Congress’ stand on T-statehood.

“We will bring more pressure on the party high-command to announce a favourable decision on Telangana,” Mr Jana Reddy said.
