Kavuri firm on resignation despite PM's intervention
Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao reiterated that he was firm on his resignation from the Lok Sabha membership.
Talking to reporters after having a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh here on Wednesday, Sambasiva Rao said that he did not change his stand over his resignation and would insist for its acceptance.
It may be mentioned that Kavuri resigned from the Lok Sabha membership after being a denied a ministerial post in the recent union cabinet reshuffle. He alleged that several junior MPs were elevated as union ministers while the party High Command was continuously ignoring him. He faxed his resignation letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi with a request to forward the same to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar for acceptance.
Having failed to convince Kavuri to withdraw the resignation, the senior leaders of the Congress party referred the matter to the Prime Minister. However, despite having a one-on-one meeting, the Prime Minister failed to convince Kavuri to withdraw his resignation.
Kavuri said that he would decide his future course of action after consulting his supporters in the Eluru constituency.
