K.A. Paul’s bail plea rejected

Justice Samudrala Govindarajulu of the AP High Court on Tuesday dismissed evangelist and Prajashanti Party president K.A. Paul's petition seeking temporary bail to campaign in the bypolls.
The court had earlier allowed him to take part in the poll campaign but he could not be released on bail since PT warrant issued by a lower court in Mahbubnagar was pending against him. The evangelist was arrested in Ongole on May 21 on a charge of luring the police to eliminate Koteswara Rao, prime accused in the murder of his brother David Raju. The police alleged that Mr Paul is the prime conspirator in the David Raju murder case.

HC urged to cancel gali bail
The CBI on Tuesday urged the High Court to cancel the bail granted to mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy by the special CBI court in the Obulapuram illegal mining case. The special court judge Pattabhirama Rao had granted conditional bail to Mr Reddy on May 11 and the High Court had granted interim suspension on it. Senior counsel Ashok Bhan, appearing for the CBI, argued that the special court had taken ‘irrelevant material’ into consideration while granting bail and ignored the serious allegations against the accused.

When the counsel kept referring to the ramifications of Mr Reddy’s illegal mining on the nation's economic fabric, Justice Samudrala Govindarajulu asked to what extent the illegal mining had spread.
Counsel replied that the company extracted iron ore over 68 hectares and that the offence was huge; it was not just an ordinary offence but a “loot” of the people and the nature.

He told the court that the accused, in their haste for illegal enrichment, had even demolished a temple without permission. The arguments will continue on Wednesday.
