Jail for Pattabhi’s son, Chalapathi
The accused in the ‘cash-for-bail’ scam — retired judge T.V. Chalapathi Rao and suspended CBI judge T. Pattabhirama Rao’s son T. Ravichandra, were shifted to Chanchalguda jail for 14 days of judicial remand on Sunday morning. The accused face allegations of involvement in former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy’s ‘bailgate’ scam. Both of them were produced before the judge on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, the CBI court has written to the transport department of Karnataka, asking for valuation of the seized vehicles of Gali. Letters have also been sent to the director general of civil aviation, requesting valuation of the chopper seized from the former minister. The letters were sent through the CBI office at Koti.
The court took the decision following the plea for the release of seized vehicles filed by Gali and his Obulapuram Mining Comp-any. The helicopter is parked in a hangar at Jakkur aerodrome in Bengaluru and the cars are at Gali’s house. After valuation, the court will decide the value of the surety bonds to be furnished by Gali and his companies before release. A Bell helicopter, a Rolls Royce, a BMW, and a Maserati were among the high-end vehicles seized.
