Jagan in a corner, mom plans yatra
With YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s options running out following Friday’s Supreme Court order, which asked him to wait till the CBI completes its investigations, his mother and party honorary president is readying to set out on a yatra to keep the morale of the party up.
CBI officials said they had conducted searches at Jeedimetla and Secunderabad in connection with the Jagan case. Refusing to divulge information, a CBI official said, “We took warrants from the court and searched the premises. We seized some documents and other material and are analysing them.” CBI officials said seven other issues were being probed, but no new cases will be booked.
Regarding their finding of alleged hawala payments, a CBI source said: “Dalmia Cements paid Rs 55 crore… they were to pay Rs 80 crore. This proves our quid pro quo allegation. The records were found during searches by income-tax officials.” Against this backdrop, Ms Vijayalakshmi will most likely be setting out on a padayatra. A meeting to finalise this plan was held on Saturday at the YSRC headquarters which discussed rejection of the party leader’s bail plea by the Supreme Court.
Party to take final decision on Vijayamma’s yatra on Monday
Sources said that YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi okayed the padayatra to counter TD chief Chandrababu Naidu's padayatra and Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Indiramma Bata. A final decision will be announced at a joint meeting of the party’s central governing council and central executive council on Monday.
YSRC leaders were of the opinion that there should be a major activity by the party in order to effectively counter the activities of the Congress and Telugu Desam, and to counter the moves of these parties in confining Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy in prison. It was suggested during the meeting that the unfinished Odarpu yatra should be taken up as a padayatra by Ms Vijayalakshmi.
After examining the pros and cons of restarting the Odarpu Yatra, it was suggested that Ms Vijayala-kshmi should take up a padayatra in almost all districts starting from Seemandhra region to explain to the people about the Congress-TD nexus to harm Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy politically. When party functionaries Y.V. Subba Reddy and Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy met Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy in jail earlier, he had apparently opted for the padayatra idea instead of the Odarpu. He also told them that the padayatra should not be confined to family issues and should be against the government on public issues.
