Inter-college sports meet marred by fight, 3 in hospital
A major fight broke out at the Zonal Sports Meet being held at the Nalla Malla College of Engineering and Technology on Saturday over seemingly petty reasons during a volleyball match. The scuffle between the home team and St. Mary’s Engineering College ended with the visitors’ team being beaten up by Nalla Malla College of Engin-eering students. A girl and two boys of St. Mary’s had to be admitted to Kamineini Hospital.
Raj (name changed), a student of St. Mary’s, said, “We went to take part in a volley ball match. During the match, a few players had an argument following which the physical director of Nalla Malla Reddy College intervened and one of our players pushed him. Following this the Nalla Malla Reddy College players stared beating our player and it led to the students fighting each other. Soon the whole college, including the staff and someone who said he was the son of the chairman, started beating 30 St. Mary’s students. When our college director went to rescue them, they beat him also.”
The cops said they have received a complaint and a case under IPC Section 324 will be booked that students were beaten by Nalla Malla College of Engineering students with rods, stones etc. The Nalla Malla College of Engineering officials were not available for comment.
