Inpatient aides to get free meals
The government has launched ‘Bhojanamrita’ programme in collaboration with Iskcon, Bengaluru and MEIL to distribute free meals to attendants of in-patients in all government hospitals of the city. The pilot programme was launched at the Niloufer Hospital for Women and Children and will be extended to Osmania and Gandhi Hospitals shortly. The government plans to extend it all over the state.
The minister for civil supplies, food and consumer affairs, Mr D. Sridhar Babu, who inaugurated the scheme, said that the government should make Niloufer Hospital a national project and by November 14, the new 450-bed block at Niloufer will also start functioning to make it the number one healthcare facility in the government sector for women and children.
Under this programme of the Hare Krishna movement, around 18,000 meals will be distributed to the Niloufer Hospital, 30,000 to OGH and 23,000 to GH a month. The meals would be supplied from a mechanised kitchen run by by the Hare Krishna movement which had earlier launched Akshaypatra and Annamrita programmes for kids.
