Indo-Pak tie, weddings to have an edge over bypolls
Sunday’s bypolls to the seven Assembly segments have become a prestige issue for the five major political parties of the state as they are being seen as a prelude to the next set of bypolls in 17 other Assembly segments that have also fallen vacant.
The three big parties, the Congress, the Telugu Desam and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti have together allegedly pumped in as much as Rs 200 crore to lure in voters. However, the leaders of all the parties are worried about the voter turnout for the polls. They fear that the India-Pakistan Asia Cup face off in Bangladesh coupled with the fact that Sunday is also the last day of marriages before Moodami (bad time) starts, will bring down polling percentages.
