Illegal constructions along nala land
Encroachment and illegal constructions are rampant along a nala, which carries excess water from Erla Cheruvu, Madinaguda, Serilingampally. A private builder has reclaimed the 15-feet wide nala, reducing it to only four feet. Despite repeated complaints from locals and activists, no action has been taken by government authorities. During the recent rains, surplus water, which usually flows into the nala, flowed into the residential area instead, resulting in the flooding of a few apartments.
“In the same area, another encroachment by a builder has also reduced the size of the nala near Kallam Anjireddy Vidhyala. After the nala exits from the institution, its size has shrunk thanks to a private builder at Madinaguda,” said P. Krishna from Save Our Urban Lake, a non-profit body working for the protection of lakes. As per the village map, there is a wide nala in the area but over a period of time, encroached by land grabbers and builders, it has been reduced to a mere four feet from its original 15 feet width.
