IED could have impacted a moving train, say cops
The IED found under the railway bridge at Tellapur did not have the expertise usually associated with the Maoists, sources said. Police is also investigating the angle that a terror group like TGI might have planted the IED in protest of the Macca Masjid blast and firing’s fifth anniversary on May 18.
The Secunderabad railway superintendent of police M. Kantha Rao, said, “It seems to be a land mine. Recently, Maoists called for a bandh and it could be their act. At around 10 am on Saturday villagers saw some fuse wires and informed us. We rushed the bomb disposal and dog squads and defused it.”
He added that the bomb was visibly stuck to the railway under-bridge. “They tried to light the fuse but were unsuccessful. There were five high explosive ammonium nitrate sticks weighting 400 grams as the explosive substance and they had put detonators and connected it to 20 metres of fuse wire. If exploded it could have had an impact on a moving train,” he said, adding that there was no VIP movement in the route and it might have been to disrupt train traffic on the Nagulapally to Lingampally lines. Police is currently trying to verify the source of the explosive material and detonators by identifying the company and batch code.
