IB sounds alert at ports, Tirumala
The Intelligence Bureau has issued an alert to all harbours, airports, religious and public places regarding terror strikes on Independence Day. The police across the state is checking railway stations, bus stations and crowded places and scouting for suspicious objects and terror suspects. The police, particularly in Hyderabad were put on alert following the Mumbai violence during the Assam protest rally. Sources said the forces were already on high alert after the Mumbai incident. At airports all visitor passes were cancelled and till the red alert is down this would continue, sources at the GMR airport said.
Meanwhile, DGP V. Dinesh Reddy held a high-level review meeting with the Hyderabad police commissioner Anurag Sharma and Cyberabad commissioner Ch. D. Tirumala Rao. The DG (law and order), Mr S.A. Huda said, “The review was conducted with intelligence and law order officials keeping the present security scenario in mind.” Checking of lodges and way side shelters has begun in all cities in the state from Saturday.
Elaborate forces were deployed and rail and bus stations are being checked. Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Kakinada and Nellore were on top in the alert list. Marine police and coast guards stepped up vigil on the coast to avert sea borne attacks. Tirumala police has been asked to be extra vigilant. The anti-terror force Octopus has been put on alert for quick deployment.
The intelligence security wing and the city security wings of the police commissionarates and the police in twin cities were kept on standby. cops have been asked to report for duty after their leaves were cancelled.
