Husband stabs TV anchor, surrenders
A TV channel anchor was stabbed by her husband, in the presence of the police, when she went to his house to collect some of her things. He later surrendered at the Gandhi Nagar police station. The victim, Ms Swetha Reddy aka Meghana, 26, is a freelancer working with Studio N, a Telugu news channel. She had earlier lodged a complaint with the women’s police station, Central Crime Station, against her husband Nagender Reddy for allegedly harassing her for dowry.
A case was registered against him, he was arrested and later released on bail. Meghana and Nagender, a businessman, had been living separately for the last few months. She had, therefore, approached the women’s police station seeking help to enter Nagender’s house in Bhoiguda, Musheerabad, to collect a few personal things. Though there were two women police officers with Meghana, Nagender attacked her and K.T.D. Naidu, a stringer with the channel, who was accompanying the anchor. She sustained cuts on both her hands and stab wounds in the abdomen. Mr Naidu also suffered knife injuries. Both were rushed to the Gandhi Hospital where they are recovering.
One of the constables, Ms Rangamma, got injured in the finger when she tried to protect Meghana. “Meghana is out of danger. We have recorded her statement and have registered a case against Nagender under Section 307,” Gandhi Nagar inspector B. Mohan Kumar, said.
