A hike in minority scholarships sought
The scholarship amount being given to students from the minority communities is meagre, the government admitted during a meeting with representatives of minority schools’ management at the Haj House here on Saturday. The meeting, chaired by principal secretary (minority affairs) Dana Kishore, concluded that there is a need to consider the issue seriously and take steps to raise the scholarship amount.
Representatives of minority educational institutions pointed out at the delay in sanction and disbursement of scholarships, to which, department officials said managements also cause delay, as they submit student’s applications very late. School authorities and representatives of help-line groups told Mr Kishore about difficulties students face while getting documents like income certificate and opening bank accounts. After hearing of the difficulties faced by the school managements, Mr Kishore assured them that the problems would be resolved. He said the State Minorities Finance Corporation would take immediate steps for quick disposal of scholarship applications.
