Heavenly Trust swindles Rs 500cr
It has come to light that one Heavenly Inter Denominal Mission (HIM) Trust has swindled Rs 500 crore from more than one lakh families across Andhra Pradesh in over a year’s time under the guise of a “benefit scheme”. The financial racket was exposed when the Trust members refused to return the promised amount and the victims approached the CBI.
According to Mr Samuel Raju, one of the victims and a resident of Vijayawada, most of the victims — belonging to poor Christian families from various districts across the state — had paid Rs 10,500 each believing that they would receive Rs 54,000 by the end of the year. However, their hopes were shattered within a few months of paying the amount when the trust members went missing.
“John Prabhakar, president of HIM Trust, along with his agents, approached several churches and a few organisations working under the cover of Christian welfare in AP and explained the benefits of the scheme, following which, nearly one lakh people invested some crores of rupees with the companies through agents in the district and many mandals,” said Mr M. Israel, resident of Nellore.
