Guard held for cruelty to dog
In a shocking incident of cruelty to animals, a street dog has been attacked and brutally beaten up by a man. The police booked a case against P. Chandraiah, the watchman of Madhavi Apartments in the city.
It was reported that Chandraiah had thrashed and seriously injured the dog named Raji while in an inebriated condition. when the dog entered the compound at night on March 27, near Vijayapuri Colony, ECIL Road, Hyderabad. N. Sowkshajee, a retired government employee and an eyewitness to the incident, said: “The watchman used an iron rod and broke the animal’s front right limb and backbone. He left the dog helpless in a pool of blood. The injured dog was immediately taken by a few residents to the nearby Blue Cross society welfare clinic for treatment.” The staff of the People for Animals association filed a complaint at Kushaiguda police station, Hyderabad.
G. Rajashekar, sub-inspector of police, Kushaiguda police station, explained: “22-year-old watchman, a native of Medak district, admitted that he had beaten the animal, because the dog had entered the apartment compound and was disturbing the residents at night. We arrested him on April 2 and booked a case under Section 11(1) AL, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. We will also file a chargesheet before the Xth metropolitan magistrate, Malkajgirii. The accused will have to pay a fine of Rs 2000 and a three-month jail term.”
Duttatraya Joshi, inspector of People for Animals, stated: “It’s illegal as per the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960. “The court will decide (on) the punishment and should take stringent action against the man.”
