Godavari pipeline to cost Rs 500 crore
Once phase-I of Godavari project is commissioned, the water will first reach Hitec City, Sainikpuri, Cantonment, Kapra, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Qutbullapur, Kukatpally, Rajendernagar and Serilingampally areas. In other words, the residential colonies of surrounding municipalities, which are reeling under severe water scarcity, will be the first among the beneficiaries to receive Godavari water. To put the internal distribution system in place for the supply of Godavari water in the city alone will cost nearly Rs 500 crore.
This will be in addition to the Rs 3,375 crore being spent to bring Godavari water from Yellampally in Karimnagar district to Shamirpet on the city outskirts. The Water Board will lay two main pipelines — Ring Main-I and Ring Main-II. While one will go towards Hitec City, the other will take water to Sainikpuri and Cantonment. This project will also integrate the entire internal drinking water supply distribution network within the city. It will inter-link the distribution networks of Osmansagar, Himayatsagar, Singur, Manjira and Krishna with that of Godavari. Phase-I of Godavari project will bring 172 million gallons of water to the city every day.
