Girl suffers acid burns at school
A Class VII girl suffered acid burns on her head at government-run AP So-cial Welfare SC Girls Residential School on Friday night.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy inaugurated the school building in the evening on Friday and interacted with students.
The school authorities had organised a science exhibition on the second floor of the building to mark the visit.
After the Chief Minister left the school, Sumathi started to carry back the exhibits put on display when acid stored in a container accidentally fell on her head.
She screamed for help and school staff poured water on her, unintentionally aggravating the burns further.
Her hair was burnt and some part of her head suffered burns. As she fell unconscious, the school staff shifted her to the local area hospital to provide medical treatment.
As Chief Minister was in town, the school authorities kept the incident under wraps. However, when the girl was admitted in the hospital, the issue came to notice on Saturday.
School principal Padmini attributed the burns to some chemical salt falling on the girl’s head. He promised her full medical treatment.
Sumathi’s condition is stable at present.
