GHMC apathy hits road decongestion
Attempts to decongest city roads by providing alternative routes has not worked out well, as traffic jams continue to clog city roads.
At least 10 alternative routes have been identified by the Road Transport Corporation after carrying out studies.
Currently, the city has around 900 routes and the study to explore more routes is still on. Buses plying through congested areas such as Lakdikapul, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, Abids, MGBS, and Koti are constantly getting stuck in traffic jams and require parallel routes.
RTC authorities have decided to divert buses plying on congested roads within the city to alternative routes, but the routes have to be improved to take the load.
“There are at least 10 alternative routes, but all are not fully developed. We have already sorted out an alternative route on the inner ring road connecting Mehdipatnam to Uppal via Arangad and LB Nagar. However, the roads have to be improved by the GHMC before the traffic can be diverted to them,” said a senior official of the Road Transport Corporation.
