Gambling on in city family clubs
Gambling is on the rise in the city’s family clubs. Even though courts have directed clubs to run recreational centres in an open and clean environment, the clubs are actually spawning illegal gambling zones in the city. One such club, the Greater Family Club, has been operating from its premises in Lower Tank Bund for quite some time now, causing nuisance to citizens in the locality. The club has also allegedly been holding the illegal ‘Three Cards’ game. Also betting, running into lakhs is quite common on the premises with the club making nearly Rs 4 lakh a day.
Amjed Ullah Khan, corporator, Azampura has repeatedly brought this to the notice of the police. There are around 40 such clubs in the city. Sources say that 10 clubs have been forced to shut down. Mr Chandrashekar Reddy, ACP, Chikkadpally said, “We have raided this club and we will see that it is shut down. Similarly, we have conducted raids on many other clubs too. We are coming down hard on them.”
