Gali paid jailer, managed a cushy stay at city prison
The state prisons department has decided to crack the whip on superintendent of the Chanchalguda Central Prison over allegations of corruption while dealing with the custody of mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy. Prison superintendent Keshav Naidu might be shunted out and made principal of the State Institute of Correctional Administration, Hyderabad. The department has sent a proposal to the government seeking the same.
Sources alleged that Mr Naidu had accepted huge amounts of money from the mining baron, who was arrested in the Obulapuram mining scam by the CBI on September 5 last. He is currently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Prison. Apparently Janardhan Reddy gave the money to Mr Naidu to provide him with better amenities in prison.
With Mr Naidu about to be transferred out, it has been proposed that Mr K. Umapati, who heads the Institute of Correctional Administration, be made superintendent of the Warangal Central Prison. Warangal jail superintendent Saidaiah is likely to take over as superintendent at the Chanchalguda jail.
