Four injured in blast inside glass godown
Four people were injured in a low intensity blast at a glass godown at Balaiah Bada street near Goshamahal stadium on Monday afternoon. The Shahinayathganj police said that paint thinner had triggered the blast that took place in a trash heap outside the godown of Rajendra Glass. The four injured Mohammed Abu, 23, Mohammed Qazi, 22, Mohammed Afzal, 24, employees of Rajendra Glass, and Narsaiah, a 78-year-old vegetable vendor, were rushed to the Osmania General Hospital. All of them, however, only required first aid.
The police, bomb squad and CLUES Team rushed to the spot on receiving information. CLUES team collected evidence and sent it to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory. Assistant commissioner of police, Goshamahal, Mr D. Srinivas, said that abandoned thinner had exploded as it was pressurised when the workers were breaking wood pieces using boulders. “The CFSL team informed us that the blast originated from the thinner. The workers threw boulders on the wood pieces to break them. Due to the pressure, the blast occurred,” he said.
Shahinayathganj inspector, Mr P. Sattaiah, said that the four were injured as waste, mainly glass, was flung due to the blast. He added that the injuries were not serious and all of them had been released from OGH after first aid.
