Film theatres sacrifice profits for T
The Telangana Film Chambers has decided to extend its support to the march and stop the screening of films for a day in the city. About 190 theatres, including seven multiplexes, will remain closed.
The estimated revenue loss is pegged at Rs 1.35 crore as there is usually a heavy rush on Sundays. The theatres will cancel only morning and afternoon shows, and then assess the situation.
“All the exhibitors in the city have agreed to close theatres and multiplexes on Sunday in support of the Telangana march,” said Telangana Film Cha-mbers chairman Vijayender Reddy. He said all 450 theatres had been closed down for two days in the Telangana region in support of the Sakala Janula Samme in September last year. On week days, each theatre earns a profit of nearly Rs 30,000, which doubles during weekends.
Malls, cinemas closed, buses, trains cancelled
All cinema theatres and multiplexes in Greater Hyderabad limits will remain closed on Sunday on account of the Telangana march. However, theatres in other Telangana districts will function as usual.
The South Central Railway (SCR) has also announced the cancellation of all MMTS and suburban trains in the city. Some passenger trains have been either cancelled or partially cancelled. The APSRTC, said in a statement, that it plans to run restricted services and that nearly 1,000 bus services have been cancelled.
