FB sparks alarm over face tagging
Facebook caused a flutter among its more than 800 million user-base when it acquired www.face.com, an auto-face recognition software, from an Israeli start-up two days ago for an undisclosed amount.
Users are worried as the application can find and tag faces in group pictures in the user’s friends’ albums on Facebook, which is an infringement of privacy. This is markedly different from rival social network Google that asks explicitly for consent before any such tagging of pictures.
Tips to avoid face recognition
* Online forums are flooded with advice on how FB users can avoid the auto-tagging system run by face.com
* One way is to go to ‘Timeline and Tagging’; then go to ‘Edit’ and choose ‘No one’ on the option ‘Who sees tag suggestions when photos that look like you are uploaded’. Click ‘Ok’.
