Engineering: Hefty donations in owners’ quota
Despite the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s direction, sale of seats in top engineering colleges by collecting huge donations is continuing unabated with the managements openly flouting the norms. Two prominent colleges in the city have allegedly already made about Rs 18 crore by selling seats.
While the Chief Minister had announced that the colleges should fill the management quota seats only after the government issued notifications, the colleges are making admissions by issuing their own notifications in newspapers.
Some colleges have gone to the extent of uploading the list of selected candidates in the management quota on their websites, making a mockery of the Chief Minister’s policy on online admissions by duly following merit under the supervision of the government.
Though it is four days since the Chief Minister announced the online admission method for management quota seats, the department of higher education has failed to issue a government order (GO) to this effect.
