EC slaps one more notice on Kiran
The EC on Friday served another notice against Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for violation of the model code of conduct, this time over allegations of reference to religion in his election speeches.
The CM, while addressing a public meeting as part of the election campaign in Tirupati on May 11, gave a call to voters to protect the sanctity of the temple town. He said religious sanctity would exist only if voters elected the Congress.
The CEO took the media reports of the CM’s reference to religion suo motu and obtained a detailed report from the Chittoor collector along with the CDs of the speech. These were forwarded to the EC which asked the CM to reply by Saturday.
The CM already received a notice for asking the voters to cast 10 votes each.
He submitted that he did not intend to violate the code. Barely a few hours after his reply, he repeated the words “cast 10 votes” in a poll speech in Narsapur on Thursday.
He, however, corrected himself and said each worker should ensure 10 votes each to the party.
