Doctors boycott services over MCI rules
Doctors from various medical associations, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA), took out rallies and participated in the all-India medical strike on Monday. Around 7,000 doctors from all over the state, including 1,500 from the city, boycotted medical services except emergencies in protest against the recent government orders pertaining to the Medical Council of India rules, NCHRH (National commission for human resource for health) Bill, BRHC (Bachelor of rural health care) course, and Clinical Establishments Act.
Though emergencies were attended to, out-patient services were disturbed for some time. Dr K. Ramdas, superintendent of Osmania General Hospital said, “The IMA doctors took out a rally and demonstrated for a couple of hours in the morning at the premises. Some doctors from the OGH also joined them. However, they resumed their duties soon after. It was mainly the private hospitals where the strike was stringent.”
At the Gandhi Hospital too, doctors took out a rally at 9 am and demonstrated for an hour. Both junior and government doctors from the hospital joined them, informed Dr Avilash. Dr Rajendra Singh Saluja, president of the AP Nursing Homes Association (APNA) said, “We haven’t heard from the government yet regarding this issue and are waiting for a response from them.”
