Doc poisons himself
A 40-year-old doctor committed suicide three days after he was released from jail in an abetment-to-suicide case.
Police said the doctor, L. Balaji, a resident of Sriramnagar Colony, Turkayamjal who was working in CAS Government Hospital at Shamshabad, injected poison into his veins, and was brought dead to a private hospital on Wednesday morning.
Police said that Balaji’s wife Dr Madhavi Latha had committed suicide two months ago alleging dowry harassment. “Balaji was booked for abetment to suicide based on a complaint by his wife’s relatives. He was remanded by a local court and was sent to Cherlapalli jail,” said Vanastalipuram Inspector B. Ravindra Reddy.
Meanwhile, the brother of deceased Hanumant approached the police alleging that the doctor ended his life as he was threatened by his wife’s relatives. Based on the complaint the police has registered a case against Latha’s father Venkata Rao and two others for abetment of suicide.
The incident came to light when Balaji’s relatives found him unconscious in his room on Wednesday morning.
“Soon he was rushed to the nearest private hospital by his brother and other family members. However, he was declared dead by the doctors,” Vanastalipuram Inspector said.
Police said that Dr. Balaji and Dr. Latha got married in 2000 after they fell in love. However, Latha later had told her parents that she was harassed by Balaji for additional dowry. She committed suicide on 29th August, and police had booked a case against the doctor on the complaint of Latha’s parents.
Dr. Balaji was remanded in Cherlapalli prison for one and half month, and was released three days ago on bail. Balaji’s brother alleged that after the doctor came out of the prison, Latha’s relatives including her father mentally harassed him.
The body was handed over to relatives after Postmortem Examinations from Osmania General Hospital.
