Dirty water makes 70 sick in 20 days
As many as 70 residents of Bela Colony of Shalibanda in the old city have fallen ill in just the past 20 days. Contaminated drinking water is the reason, say the residents.
People living in the colony complained of diarrhoea and vomiting and had to be hospitalised.
Rakesh Agnihotri, who has been living in the colony for 23 years, said, “My daughter who is currently preparing for a competitive exam has fallen ill after consuming the contaminated drinking water.
She has been in bed since the past 15 days. We have given several representations to the Shalibanda Water Board, but no action has been taken.
Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, a 52-year-old RTC employee, said his wife and children have been complaining of upset stomach and blisters. “The doctor said blamed the water for the problems.”
The Water Board, however, claims the residents are buying water from outside every day even though they get good water supply.
There is no logic to such an argument as citizens are unlikely to buy water from outside if good water is being supplied to them.
When contacted, Anand Naik, the deputy commissioner of the Water Board, Shalibanda, said, “We will look into the matter as soon as possible and check the quality of water supplied to the residents.”
