Debris, a threat during T-rally
The construction works, undertaken for the CoP-11, the global biodiversity meet next month, which are yet to be completed, have emerged as a major obstacle for people, who will be sharing the roads with Ganesh immersion processions on Saturday and the Telangana marchers on Sunday. The beautification of footpaths for the meet has led to thousands of new tiles being dumped on the pedestrians’ way with the rubble lying uncleared.
The police has asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to clear the routes for the Ganesh procession and Telangana march by Friday night, fearing that rubble and debris could easily be picked up and hurled. Though such clearing of roads is routinely done every year prior to immersion day, this time there is more construction material lying around due to the unfinished works.
GHMC chief engineer Kanna Suresh confirmed that additional vehicles would be commissioned for the task. Officials said the civic body has been asked to focus on the footpaths in Tank Bund, lower Tank Bund, Secretariat, Saifabad, Khairatabad flyover, Hotel Marriott to Kavadiguda, Indira Park and Ashok Nagar besides the Musheerabad routes.
