‘Daytime’ burglar stole to fund betting habit
Sanjeevareddynagar police nabbed a horse racing addict who used to commit thefts to earn money so that he could bet on horse races. Police said the accused, Kamepalli Krishna Mohan, a resident of Malleshwaram in Bengaluru, had committed 21 thefts in various parts of the city.
They also seized 600 grams of gold ornaments, 13 laptops and four desktop computers from him.
According to the police, the 31-year-old used to break into houses during the day. He had started committing theft since 1998 after discontinuing his engineering course.
“He was addicted to horse racing and used to bet on races in Hyderabad, Beng-aluru and Chennai. To get money for the same, he continued to steal,” Sanjeevareddynagar detective sub inspector M.S.V. Kishore said. “He would usually break into locked houses in the day time to steal the property, which he would sell in Bengaluru,” Mr Kishore added. The accused was presented to the 3rd additional metropolitan magistrate and was remanded.
