Danam to talk to CM about tax, tariff hike
City ministers and MLAs are angered by the steep hike in drinking water tariff and property taxes for non-residential premises. Labour minister Danam Nagender on Wednesday expressed his disapproval over the decision by the Water Board and GHMC to hike water tariff and property taxes.
“I will take up the issue with Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. People are upset over the steep increase in the tariff and taxes. I am flooded with representations from all localities,” Mr Nagender said.
The labour minister said he has already taken the issue up with the Water Board and the GHMC and has urged the two bodies to reconsider their decisions. “The situation has come to such a pass that we are unable to go to localities. Wherever we go, people are questioning us on the steep hike. It’s a very serious matter and we will take it up with the CM,” he added. Mr Nagender said that while residents of several localities complain about the short supply and shortage of drinking water, the hike has irritated them further.
