Cyberabad cops gear up for CoP-11
Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) specialists will be part of the foolproof security system for the upcoming Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CoP-11). A special team from the Indian Army will be deployed at the conference venue to tackle any CBRN threat from terror outfits. “We have been informed that a team of CBRN specialists from Jodhpur will be arriving for the conference. Apart from the hi-tech security system for CoP-11, this team can tac-kle any CBRN threat from terror outfits,” Cyberabad commissioner of police D. Thirumal Rao said.
According to senior police officials, this will be the first time that a CBRN team will be dispatched to Hyderabad. “Since it is a massive conference for which around 12,000 delegates from 194 countries will be arriving in the city, the CBRN surveillance is a must,” a senior officer of the Cyberabad police said. Official sources said that the Army has 16 CBRN monitoring vehicles on order so far. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the monitoring system and trained the specialists.
Apart from CBRN surveillance, the conference will have protection from the United Nation Depart-ment of Safety and Security, National Security Guard, Central Reserve Police Force, Andhra Pradesh Police Force and the Rapid Action Force, Mr Thirumal Rao said. “All gates at the venue will be equipped with under vehicle scanners so that all vehicles would be automatically scanned,” he added. Police officials said the venue will be divided into three zones, for security purposes. “The first zone, comprising the main conference hall, will be under the control of UN security personnel. The second and third zone will be under the control of the city police,” informed Mr Thirumal Rao.
