No stay on court appointments
A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice V. Eswaraiah and Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar on Monday refused to grant stay on the appointment of members from the revenue department to the Special Land Grabbing Court. K. Vivek Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, told the court that the AP Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act enabled the appointment of a sitting or retired High Court judge as chairman to the special court and four members, including two from the judiciary and two from the Revenue department. The latter two, even though lacking in judicial knowledge, had the power to conduct trial of ownership cases and to conduct criminal trials, which may cause prejudice, he said.
