Court rules out special status for Pattabhi
The ACB court on Saturday declined special category prisoner status to arrested CBI special judge T. Pattabhi Rama Rao, accused in the Gali Janardhan Reddy cash-for-bail case. Turning down Mr Rao’s request to treat him as a special category prisoner, the court opined that the corruption charges levelled against him were of a serious nature.
Judges should lead an exemplary life and giving special prisoner status would send out wrong signals, stated the court. It, however, asked jail officials to provide Mr Rao with adequate medical facilities given his frail health. Mr Rao has been lodged in the Charla-pally Jail since his arrest. The ACB court, meanwhile, granted police custody of two other accused in the case, retired judge T.V. Chalapati Rao and Pattabhi Rao’s son T. Ravi Chandra.
