Court puts Galla on notice for misuse of power, illegal assets
Justice R. Subhash Reddy of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday issued notice to the Centre, the state government and minister for mines and geology Galla Aruna Kumari, on a plea that sought a direction from the court to conduct a probe through an independent agency into the amassing of wealth by the minister by allegedly misusing her office.
Mr G. Purushotham Naidu, an agriculturist of Chittoor district, filed the plea alleging that the minister amassed disproportionate wealth by making use of companies owned by her husband as a cover for money acquired through corrupt means.
He told the court that the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation has acquired land in various villages in Puthalapattu mandal at the behest of the minister (in violation of Chapter VIII of the Land Acquisition Act). The petitioner contended that about 483 acres of land was acquired under the Land Acquisition Act and later transferred in favour of Amar Raja Infra Pvt. Ltd owned by the husband of the minister.
