Cops: Trying to trace child’s father
Kowdipally sub-inspector T. Kiran Kumar said Baby Nagesh was sold a week back. “He has been rescued and handed over to the women and child welfare department officials and shifted to the Child Care Centre at Sangareddy,” he said. The police was interrogating Ms Yasodha about the deal.
The SI said, “Yasodha is not answering properly. We are yet to cross-check her version regarding the treatment of her father.” Ms Yasodha had separated from her husband four years ago. She had the baby 11 months ago. “We are trying to trace the child’s father. Yasodha is staying with her parents,” the police official said.
“In the written agreement with the buyers she had stated that she was selling her child as she was unable to raise him. The buyer, Venkati, has claimed that he had been trying to legally adopt a child from the state women and child welfare department. But when Ms Yasodha approached him and offered to sell the infant, he agreed as he was unaware of the legal consequence,” said the SI. Both Ms Yasodha and Mr Venkati of Velamakanne village are daily-wage workers. Mr Venkati also owns a small piece of land which he cultivates.
