Contact agenda launched

The launch of the month-long Prajapatham by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday, virtually resembled an election campaign. The programme is an initiative by the state government to reach out to people during the crucial summer season and address their problems. Though it began on a low note, with only Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy's whirlwind tour of Payakaraopet Assembly segment and participation in several programmes, the Chief Minister virtually converted the Prajapatham into election meetings.

The programme was yet to be kick-started in the remaining parts of the state. In several places, the respective district ministers and peoples’ representatives would launch the programme from Monday. Wherever the Chief Minister addressed the public, he sought their support for continuance of his “good governance.” Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy also referred to the bypolls and municipal polls in which he wanted the people to give a verdict in support of the development works being carried out by his government.

Horticulture minister R.Venkatarami Reddy was gheraoed by several women in Pedda Tanda habitation in Khammam district. The minister was forced to stop his speech and sit for about half an hour as women disrupted the meeting and raised slogans. They complained to the minister that the local officials ignored the genuine poor while allotting houses and ration cards. District collector Siddharth Jain pacified the agitating women and assured them that necessary action would be taken. In Karimnagar district, the women groups demanded civil supplies minister D. Sridhar Babu that immediate steps should be taken to resolve the drinking water crisis.

The minister was participating in the Prajapatham programme in Kaleswaram village of Mahadevpur mandal. Mr Sridhar Babu said that the very objective of the programme was to identify the peoples' problems and work for on-the-spot solutions. District collector Smitha Sabrawal also took part in the meeting.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
