Congress using T-issue to blackmail voters: TRS

The TRS on Saturday questioned the claims by Congress leaders that a victory for the party in the forthcoming byelections to 18 Assembly segments would decide the vexed Telangana issue. TRS Deputy Floor leader T. Harish Rao said Congress MP Lagdapati Rajagopal and minister T.G. Venkatesh were blackmailing people in the run-up to the bypolls.

He said Mr Rajagopal’s statement that the Congress would take a decision on Telangana acceptable to 80 per cent of the people was only a ploy to divert people's attention and gain political advantage in the byelections. “Does the Congress high command subscribe to Mr Rajagopal’s claims that a victory for Congress in the bypolls will ensure a lasting solution for Telangana? Why are Telangana Congress MPs silent?” the TRS leader questioned. Mr Rao also questioned Mr Venkatesh’s claim that a win for the YSR Congress would lead to bifurcation of the state.
