Complaint against APPCB chairman
The Lokayukta has admitted a complaint filed against the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board by Mr M.K. Veera Reddy, president of the Maa Telangana Party. The complaint was lodged on February 1. Mr Reddy alleged that the chairman has been interfering in the working of the APPCB and as a consequence, the Board has taken no action against certain bulk drug manufacturing units for not complying with its orders to furnish bank guarantees.
The complainant stated that the APPCB, in its August 26, 2011, order, directed about 14 polluting bulk drug units in four districts surrounding Hyderabad to furnish within 15 days bank guarantees for preventing air and water pollution. According to Mr Reddy, these units have been manufacturing and releasing bulk drugs that they have not been authorised for. The complainant pointed out that the units had not complied with the order nor had the APPCB taken any steps to ensure compliance. The order had stated that criminal action would be taken against the companies if they failed to comply.
