Commissionerates to merge soon
The merger of Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates is still on cards and the police department will soon submit a report to the government regarding the same, director-general of police V. Dinesh Reddy said here on Saturday. The DGP also denied reports of Maoists infiltrating the police. “The antecedents of candidates applying for police jobs are verified at various levels. It is not correct to say that they have infiltrated the police force.”
He added that Left wing extremism was under control in the state. “Occasionally Maoists try to cross into the state from neighbouring states into Visakhapatnam and Khammam, but they are driven back,” he said. About the recent cellphone call data leak of CBI joint director V.V. Lakshminarayana, Mr Reddy said, “I haven’t received any complaints regarding this. If we receive one we will investigate it.”
In the “half yearly roundup of policing in AP”, Mr Reddy said “corruption had drastically come down in the state. SPs are interacting with the public every Monday.” Around 65,561 cases are under investigation by the police and 3.2 lakh cases are pending trial in courts. Giving the figures, CID additional DG S.V. Ramana Murthy said, “Special courts for trying cases regarding offences against women will be set up in Hyderabad city and in Cyberabad.”
“The city police has detected 18 cases of drug peddling so far in the city. Also out of 50 cases of communal offences, 21 have been solved,” said city Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma. “So far this year, there have been 1,068 road accidents in the city in which 199 people died and 1,027 were injured. Drunken driving has been one of the top reasons for mishaps. We have conducted special drives and booked 6,271 cases. Around 98 gangs involved in snatchings, property offences and automobile thefts were arrested,” he added.
