CM’s mega yatra to take on Jagan
To counter the growing popularity of YSR Congress and its chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and a few of his Cabinet colleagues will hit the road from next week to see first-hand the ground realities of government schemes and to interact with local Congressmen. Slated to be on the same massive scale as Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Odarpu Yatra, the yet-to-be named mega mass contact programme is being seen as a shaking-up of the administration and the Congress in order to prepare the pa-rty for the 2014 elections.
AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad had stated in a recent interview to this newspaper that Congressmen should explain the programmes and policies of the government and the party to the masses. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy’s tour is part of that exercise. After his father YSR’s death, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy had embarked on the Odarpu yatra to console the families of those who had died after hearing of YSR’s death.
The move had earned him immense popularity among the masses which had carried over to the YSR Congress when he had split from the Congress. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy will want to emulate Jagan Mohan Reddy’s yatra and hope for the same results. The CM will visit the districts for three days every week starting next week. In the mornings he will inspect schools, colleges, welfare hostels, irrigation and government works.
