CM downplays rift
Stating that his government is as stable as any other government in the country, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday attempted to play down the dissidence that has been rocking the state Congress ever since the poor showing by the party in the recently held byelections to seven Assembly seats.
Reacting to the statements made by some ministers that he should quit and the entire Cabinet be removed, Mr Reddy warned that the party high command was “watching and monitoring” the situation. He added that those leaders who cross the “Lakshman Rekha” would face disciplinary action.
Without naming former minister P. Shankar Rao, the CM reminded that action has indeed been taken against some people who had crossed the line. Attempting to play down the present turbulence in the party, Mr Reddy admitted that dissidence and misuse of the freedom of expression are nothing new to the Congress and the party has faced such situations over the years. He said that the statements of some disgruntled leaders will not have any impact.
