Civic officials told to fight mosquitoes
The standing committee led by mayor Majid Hussain on Thursday ordered an inquiry into a large number of garbage bins in Hyderabad going missing.
The mayor asked special commissioner Navin Mittal to inquire into the issue and submit a report in the next meeting.
Officials were also asked to stop proposing works that benefit builders and instead use the public money to take up anti-larval operations and fight the mosquito menace.
Officials had earlier proposed improvement of junctions at Hafeezpet, Hayatnagar, Botanical Garden, Jeedimetla estimated to cost nearly `3 crore as per traffic improvement plan submitted by HMDA-LEA Associates.
However, the mayor and the corporators did not approve the junction improvement plans.
“The city is under attack from mosquitoes. Garbage bins are disappearing.
Garbage is being dumped on roads. Officials have failed to replace the missing bins. The priority of civic body should be to maintain sanitation and control mosquitoes,” a member of standing committee said.
