City unaffected by AI pilots’ stir
The ongoing pilots’ strike hardly had any effect on Air India’s operations from Hyderabad on Wednesday. According to the AI PRO, no flight was cancelled in the city. He pointed out that the Chicago-bound AI-127 flight from Hyderabad via Delhi was not technically cancelled, as the passengers were adjusted in another domestic flight coming from Chennai.
While AI-127 was supposed to take off at 8.55 pm, the flight that arrived from Chennai took off at 7.50 pm. “Since international passengers are required to report three hours before departure, leaving an hour before the scheduled time was no problem,” the PRO said. Of 17 domestic flights from Hyderabad, one bound for Chennai was cancelled. Meanwhile, Air India on Wednesday sacked 10 more pilots who went on mass ‘sick leave’, resulting in cancellation of several international flights across the country. With Air India moving the Delhi High Court, the Bench of Justice Reva Khetrapal held the strike by over 200 Air India pilots “illegal”, and barred them from any protest action.
