City gets its directions right ahead of CoP-11
The city will finally have proper signages showing directions to various destinations. To begin with, the signages will be in place by September 30 on at least 100-km of main roads identified to be used by delegates of CoP-11. Signages will be put in place on remaining roads after the meet. Though one of the bidders went to the court, it has permitted GHMC to proceed with works pending final judgement.
The signages will be in accordance with Indian Road Congress guidelines. “Advance direction and then direction, followed by confirmatory direction signages will be put in place. For example, 100 metres before reaching a junction, the commuter can see an advance signage board giving the name of next approaching road and junction. “At the junction, he will again get signage boards and after crossing it he will get confirmatory signage boards stating he has crossed the junction and is now proceeding towards so and so road,” GHMC engineer-in-chief R. Dhan Singh told this newspaper.
