CISF SI faces theft rap
Even though no formal complaint has been lodged with the police, a woman sub-inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) posted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here has been accused of stealing gold ornaments from a passenger’s handbag.
The incident which reportedly took place two days back has been kept away from the public eye as the matter pertains to a CISF employee.
The act was caught on CCTV as officials were keeping an eye on those involved in checking hand baggage as similar complaints had been received recently. It was during such a routine review of CCTV footage that the authorities discovered this act of stealing.
The said SI who had been placed under suspension had allegedly stolen things from a Gujarati passenger’s handbag sometime back. The scanning of baggage and the subsequent manual checking gives a lot of scope for such thefts as there is a interval between the arrival of passengers after their checking and the arrival of their luggage through the X-ray scanner.
While the police version says that the said SI claimed that she was just picking the ornaments which fell on the floor, sources revealed that the said SI has been put under suspension following initial investigations during an ongoing inquiry.
Sources also revealed that the said SI even handed over the stolen ornaments to senior CISF officials here.
