CBI’s selective arrests angers HC
Justice K.C. Bhanu of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation why it was showing discrimination in arresting only the accused in the assets’ case of Kadapa MP and YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and not others named in the chargesheet.
The judge was dealing with the plea of the CBI moved during the lunch session seeking cancellation of the bail granted by the special court to Mr V. Vijay Sai Reddy, an accused in the case. Pointing out that only one person was arrested from among 17 persons accused in the chargesheet, the judge asked the CBI counsel to show prima facie reason to admit its plea to reject the bail granted to Mr Vijay Sai Reddy.
The CBI counsel said that the special court granted bail to Mr Vijay Sai Reddy on the grounds that the “other accused” in the case were out, and the court did not consider the other aspects raised by the CBI to oppose the bail. He argued that the accused will create hurdles in the ongoing probe if he is let out on bail. The judge issued notice to Vijay Sai Reddy and posted the case for hearing to April 18.
