CBI chief has kitty full
Central Bureau of Investigation teams, led by joint director V.V. Lakshminarayana, are currently investigating 15 high profile cases.
The fate of top politicians of the country, including Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the Sohrabuddin and Ishrat Jahan encounter case, former Karnataka chief minister Yeddyurappa in the illegal mining case, Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in the disproportionate assets case and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy in the Obulapuram mining scam rests on the CBI.
CBI Hyderabad is the headquarters for Hydera-bad, Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru zones and has to bear a heavy workload.
A CBI source said, “We are working on Sundays too to clear the high profile cases. We are facing a staff crunch. Around 15 cases including the Emaar scam involving industrialists, IAS officials, the Maoist Azad encounter case and the Satyam Ramalinga Raju fraud case are being dealt with here.”
Mr Lakshminarayana’s deputation will come to an end in the next four months. “The CBI JD is willing to go back to his parent Maharashtra cadre and we don’t know if his deputation will be extended or not,” said the source.
Born in Srisailam in Kurnool district, Mr Lakshminarayana is an M.Tech graduate from IIT Madras. He worked as SP Nanded and in the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad. He was posted in Hyderabad in June 2006.
The CBI chief often visits his home town Srisailam and is the chairman of the Srisailam Project Old Students’ Association.
The school has got funds for renovation and Mr Lakshminarayana and his old friends are planning to conduct a golden jubilee in the school in Septembe
