Cash-for-bail scam: Pattabhi arrested by ACB
The ACB on Tuesday arrested suspended CBI special judge T. Pattabhi Rama Rao in the cash-for-bail case. He has been accused of criminal misconduct, abusing his official position and accepted illegal gratification for granting bail to former minister of Karnataka Gali Janardhan Reddy.
In its remand report, the ACB had alleged that investigations had disclosed that Mr Rama Rao had conspired with other accused. “Gali Somasekhar Reddy and three others paid an amount of 11.6 crore to Pattabhi Rama Rao through retired judge T.V. Chalapathi Rao for granting bail on May 11 to Janardhan Reddy,” ACB DSP T. Raghupathi Goud alleged in the remand report. Mr Rama Rao Rao was an ACB special court judge at Purana Haveli prior to his appointment as a CBI judge. He was produced in his old court on Tuesday evening and remanded to judicial custody for 10 days.
ACB officials reached his house at judge’s quarters in Banjara Hills on Tuesday at 5 am. He was brought to the ACB office in MJ Market and interrogated till afternoon. Sources said that during interrogation, Mr Rama Rao denied all allegations. Mr Rama Rao filed a petition for being treated as a ‘special category’ prisoner stating that he was suffering from serious ailments. He is a diabetic and had undergone a heart surgery.
